Oct. 17 - Day 15 - Kimmswick, MO to Omete Creek, MO

Slept wonderfully - especially after going through the whole St. Louis disaster! (Karla left out a ton about last night - it was horrible!) Karla and I woke up around 8:15, Wade was already up and getting things ready for the day - what a trooper! We gased up, filled the water jugs, cleand the boat up a bit and then went to pay the lady who ran the marina. She warned us that from here on out we were on our own - we had 2 options:

Option #1 -we could go down the Mississppi like originally planned, there would be no more marina's or docks from this point on (the current gets so strong that the river just tears down the docks), there was no easy way to get into town, we'd have to climb up levys with our gas cans, hike into town, someone would possibly have to stay with the boat if there was no place to tie it to, we would travel faster tho with the current, almost guarenteed 10mph - probably more, and the Mississippi was another 1000 miles to the end.

Option #2 - we could take the OH and KY rivers down to Mobile, AL, it was said to be a prettier route, marina's the whole way down, and 300 miles shorter than the Mississippi, but going on those rivers would put us against the current and our top speed would probably 5mph.

So that gave us something to think about... and argue about. lol But the deciding factor was to remain with our original plans. This way we get home faster! I miss home. :(

Continuing on our way - Wade took the morning shift, there is a lot of junk in the water now, mainly logs all different sizes we have to be careful not to hit the bigs ones. The waves are increasingly larger too! But they are kinda fun to go over! Just not when they are So big! haha!

Karla took the afternoon shift and took us down this little channel - I'm not sure what she was thinking.... how she thought it was the right way? I have no idea. lol But we didn't get into it far before we saw a drop off ahead and Wade took over to get us outof there! He pulled an incredible stunt called "turning around" lol

I took the evening shift, so this is where I must add - we have a new champion for top speed! ME! haha! Got up to 11.9mph!! Go me!!

We were sure to have a spot picked out for camping early, we stopped on a muddy bank just outside of the main channel, we stopped about 5pm - no more driving in the dark crap! Plus, our spotlight died, so we'd be sitting ducks in the dark. :(

I made supper (chicken and rice with green beans!) We played a dice game which wade had never played before and ended up dominating us at. After several games of that, we put on a movie where again, I fell asleep in it.
